On The Fringe is more than just a great pub. Based at The Shakespeare, we are Southport’s first pub venue to showcase live music, theatre, comedy, poetry and workshops all under one roof.

We offer a wide range of quality beers, wines and ciders, delicious pub food, live sports, roaring fires, comfy sofas and much more. All in a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere. It’s the reason our customers keep coming back time and time again.

The Shakespeare is one of Southport’s largest and most famous pubs and has been an integral part of the local community for many years. The building itself has been a well known landmark within Southport for over 100 years and the traditional feel and welcoming atmosphere have meant it has always been a popular destination in the town. With ‘On The Fringe’ we want to keep it that way.

Our aim is to build on the strong reputation the venue has had for live music and become a flagship independent arts venue for Southport and the North West.

Located on the corner of Scarisbrick New Road, the venue has a number of different areas with seating, comfortable sofas, roaring fires and wide screen TVs throughout. Upstairs there is a 100-seat theatre, bar and studio while downstairs there is a large bar area, plenty of seating areas, a piano and couches. There are also two separate rooms downstairs, to the front of the pub, which provide a great place to unwind, sit by a homemade fire and enjoy a well-earned drink. There is also a beer garden to the rear.
